Finally...someone
who can do both
Troy Stende offers a wildly popular option for your orientation. Schools all over the nation bring Troy back year-after-year to present his impactful duo of programs. First, students are captivated with his keynote, Life Unlimited. Then they are energized by his Ice Breakers. Descriptions
of both programs are below... |
Here's a few orientation pictures...

"I
have to be honest, when I first saw the itinerary, I was less
than excited when I saw an hour and a half with a keynote
speaker…And then you came on stage and blew me away. At the
end of your keynote speech, I had wished that you weren't done…
I was nervous about going to the orientation, being around
people I didn't know, not having any friends there. But then
you had us doing exercises that helped us get over that fear,
and I realized I was not the only one in the room that felt
that way. …I was wishing that it was an all day seminar.
Thank you again for making student orientation an easy, fun,
and amazing day. You really are inspirational... ~Krystle

RESEARCH Students are more likely to succeed when they feel a connection to school. According to Robert W. Blum, school connectedness not only increases the likelihood of academic success, it also reduces the likelihood of student engagement in health-compromising behaviors (Blum, R. W. A case for school connectedness. Educational Leadership, April 2005, p. 16-19.) Blum cites research supporting the belief that student who feel connected to school are less likely to “use substances, exhibit emotional distress, demonstrate violent or deviant behavior, experience suicidal thoughts or attempt suicide and become pregnant” and are more likely to “succeed academically and graduate” (p. 17). Although Blum’s research deals mostly with adolescents, it is possible and probable that college students would experience the same benefits of connectedness. When college students feel connected with their campus community, they are more likely to stay in school, participate in school, and graduate. If you are looking for ways to increase connection and retention on your campus, you’ve found it. Our Ice Breakers are a great way to create connections.

Orientation Leader Training : In addition to orientation programming for the freshman, I also offer extensive training programs for Orientation Leaders. The way I do this is I’d find out specifically what you are looking for; learn more about your situation and the needs of the participants. Using that information I create a customized flow of events tailored to fit your specific needs. Then I spell out in detail the recommendations, staying away from “canned” programs so I can best directly target your intended outcomes. The flow is created by drawing from one or more of the following tracks depending on your needs:
The facilitation/presentation skills training track is very popular for orientation. Among other things, we might work on leading the small group process, debriefing skills, learning new icebreakers and how to facilitate them.
I work with all different size groups with varying
times. I once worked with 17 student leaders for 13 hours
straight just focusing on facilitation and teambuilding. |

"Dear Troy, This has been too long in coming, however I'm sending it anyway because I really want you to know how impressed I am with what you did over our short three days with you this summer. I cannot express how much I appreciate the depth and "core" of what you brought to our group. You helped us bond, expand, and connect in such a deep and impactful way. Our team would never have been this great without you. This summer was an absolute blast. We did not have ANY of the problems with attendance, performance, connections, negativity, ect...that we normally experience in our orientation season. I know that a large part of that has to do with the work and team building that you brought to our group. This OL group was more bonded, collaborative, and genuinely caring than I have ever seen in the last two years of orientations since we've started. All of this after their salaries were cut from the year prior! I am so impressed with you and your work. Your tone, demeanor, and ability to get us all energized, yet THINKING is amazing. Thank you a million times for working with us. Thank you for being so flexible although we were running around crazy and disorganized. Thank you for going and not holding it against us. I appreciate you and the light that you shine and help us each to shine brightly. We still do our snaps when we see each other, and mention your name a lot! Everyone here misses you greatly. You've helped us to become the best orientation leader team that we could be- and it showed! We know who we want again this year- YOU! You truly are the best and we look forward to working with you this year!" Sincerely Sarah
